what samya knows about you.

samya is a daily reading whose ground colour is the real sky over you. to write it, the app needs a few facts. this page lists every one of them, what it is for, who else sees it, and how to make the app forget. nothing here is sold, and nothing is used for advertising.

who is responsible

samya is made by hardik jain, thane, india. questions and requests go to hardiksjain.in@gmail.com.

what the app collects, and why

  • an anonymous account. the app signs you in anonymously the first time it opens. there is no name, email, or password. this id is what ties your data together.
  • your birth date, and optionally your birth time and place. you type these in. they are the basis of the reading: your sidereal sign, moon, rising sign, and the house and star the day is counted from. your age, derived from the date, sets the register of the writing; it is never shown as a number.
  • roughly where you are (only if you allow location). one coarse point, rounded to about 11 km, overwritten each time; never a trail. it colours the sky, places the sun and moon, sets your sunrise, and fetches the weather. the app also notices when you are far from where most of your days have been.
  • last night's sleep and yesterday's steps from health connect (only if you allow it, on our screen and then the system's). read only. the reading mentions a short night when it changes the day. this data is never used for advertising, never shared with anyone except as described under "who else sees it", never sold.
  • when your screen was off overnight (only if you grant usage access in settings). the app reads screen-on and screen-off times to estimate when you slept, for people without a watch. it never reads which apps you used.
  • what you tell it about a day (only if you choose to). whether the day's line, or its entry for home, people, love or work, landed or missed, and up to one short line in your own words in the evening. and, if you choose, one line about what today is for you, which the day's line is then written with. it is stored with that day and read by the writer for the next morning's line. it is never shown to anyone.
  • how you use samya. when you open it, how long it is on screen, which line was shown, whether you turned on the sunrise notification, whether you shared your card. this makes tomorrow's reading less like today's and tells us what works.
  • your phone. model, android version, screen size, language, time zone, app version. for fixing bugs. crash reports are collected in release builds.

who else sees it

  • google firebase stores the data above in mumbai, india (firestore), signs you in (authentication), delivers notifications (cloud messaging), and collects aggregate usage and crash reports (analytics, crashlytics). google processes it on our behalf under its firebase privacy terms.
  • anthropic writes the words. each day the facts above, without your id, are sent to anthropic's claude model, which returns the day's reading. anthropic does not train on this data under its commercial terms.
  • open-meteo gives the weather. it is asked for the weather at your coarse point (the same 11 km rounding), with nothing that identifies you, so the day's line can know that it is 38° or raining.
  • nobody else. no advertising networks, no data brokers, no analytics beyond the above.

how long it is kept

usage events are deleted automatically after 180 days. everything else is kept until you delete it.

how to make it forget

"start over" inside the app (under "how this was made") clears the phone. to delete everything stored on our side, email hardiksjain.in@gmail.com from the phone with the app installed, or with your anonymous id, and it is removed within seven days. in-app deletion is coming in a later version. you can withdraw location, health connect and usage access at any time in android settings; the reading simply knows less.

children

samya is not meant for anyone under 16 and does not knowingly collect their data.

changes

when this page changes, the date at the top changes. anything that collects something new will also ask you in the app first.
